Signing of MoU between ICMR-NIRT and CCRS: Promotion of Collaborative Research for TB Elimination through Siddha Integration 19th May, 2026

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis and Central Council for Research in Siddha on 19th May 2026 at the CCRS Headquarters, Chennai, marking an important step towards strengthening collaborative efforts for Tuberculosis (TB) elimination through integrative healthcare approaches.
The MoU aims to facilitate collaborative research activities involving Siddha systems of medicine and healthcare services in support of India’s TB elimination goals. The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Srinath Satyanarayana, Director of ICMR-NIRT and Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General of CCRS in the presence of senior officials, scientists, faculty members, researchers, and students from both institutions.
Following the signing ceremony, a technical session titled “Priorities for TB Elimination and Scope for AYUSH Integration and Contribution” was conducted by experts from ICMR-NIRT and CCRS. The session featured presentations by Dr. Banu Rekha, Dr. Ramalingam, and Dr. Azger Dusthackeer (Senior scientists of ICMR-NIRT).
The deliberations focused on the current priorities in TB elimination, opportunities for integrating AYUSH systems into TB care and research, and potential collaborative pathways to strengthen public health outcomes. The session witnessed active participation from researchers, students, and faculty members of Siddha institutions from across the region, fostering meaningful scientific discussions and exchange of ideas.
