HTA Sensitization for Innovators & Startups: Economic Evaluation Workshop for Bridging the Innovation Gap

ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai successfully conducted the "HTA Sensitization for Innovators & Startups: Economic Evaluation Workshop for Bridging the Innovation Gap" on 11th June 2026 for start-ups and innovators associated with IIT-Madras incubation platforms.

A total of 46 participants registered for the programme, of whom 21 participants were accommodated and attended the workshop at IIT Madras, Chennai. The programme aimed to create awareness on Health Technology Assessment in India (HTAIn) and its role in promoting evidence-based decision-making, healthcare innovation, and economic evaluation of health technologies.

The workshop featured expert sessions by distinguished resource persons:

• Dr. Jagadeesh, Scientist-C, HTA Secretariat, Department of Health Research (DHR), New Delhi

• Dr. Vignesh L, Assistant Professor (NCD), JIPMER, Puducherry

ICMR-NIRT gratefully acknowledges the support extended by Mr. Ravishankar Ramanathan, Senior CEO, IIT Madras HTIC Incubator, and Ms. Madhumathi Kalidoss, Chief Operating Officer, IIT Madras HTIC Incubator, for their valuable assistance in organizing and conducting the programme.

The workshop received an enthusiastic response from participants. Senior faculty members from Anna University, Vellore Institute of Technology, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, and Panimalar Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, along with representatives from healthcare technology and MedTech industries, appreciated the initiative.

Participants expressed keen interest in undertaking HTA studies, economic evaluations, and capacity-building activities within their institutions. Feedback indicated that the programme was highly informative, relevant, and beneficial, providing valuable insights into the role of HTA in strengthening healthcare innovation and supporting evidence-based policy and decision-making.

The successful conduct of the workshop marks another step toward fostering collaboration among academia, innovators, start-ups, and policymakers to bridge the gap between healthcare innovation and evidence-based implementation.
