PROJECT
Improving the tuberculosis care cascade using an intervention package in the selected central prisons across Tamil Nadu: An Implementation Research project
May 2026 - April 2029
Objectives:
To estimate the effectiveness of an intervention package as measured by difference in the case
detection rate among prison inmates in Tamil Nadu.
To assess the adoption, feasibility, fidelity and sustainability of an intervention package in the
continuity of care for prisoners with tuberculosis in Tamil Nadu.
Study Overview:
This study aims to improve TB detection and continuity of care among inmates in selected central prisons in Tamil Nadu through a package of screening, capacity-building, linkage and support interventions.
Study Approach:
A quasi-experimental study will evaluate a multi-component intervention package in four central prisons in Tamil Nadu. Baseline and endline assessments will use registry data, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews.
Expected Public Health Impact:
The study is expected to support earlier detection and treatment of TB and improve continuity of care among prisoners by strengthening linkages between prison and district health systems.
