PROJECT

Central Biorepository for TB Specimens

January 2023 - July 2026

Objectives:

1. To undertake long term storage of biological specimens and linked clinical data collected from study participants enrolled and followed up at all the RePORT India clinical research sites.
2. To disburse archived samples to TB researchers with protocols approved by the Executive Committee of the RePORT India Consortium.

Study Overview:

The TB Biorepository is a specialized facility that systematically collects, curates, and stores biological specimens (such as blood, sputum, and genomic material) from TB patients and at-risk populations. It is essential for accelerating TB research, standardizing clinical data, and developing new drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines.

Study Approach:

The chief responsibility of the Biorepository is to collect biospecimens and linked clinical data for TB research leveraging the existing infrastructure, processes and scientific partnerships established under the Regional Prospective Observational Research for Tuberculosis (RePORT) India Consortium, and store them under ideal storage conditions for future research.

Expected Public Health Impact:

The TB Biorepository is a significant scientific achievement that can serve to accelerate biomarker discovery, diagnostic development, progress novel drug candidates and advance vaccines besides enhancing our understanding on the pathogenesis, disease control and management.
