Bioavailability of fixed dose combination of first line anti-TB drugs in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

Objectives:
To assess the bioavailability of RMP, INH and PZA when administered as fixed dose combination (FDC) in adults and children with pulmonary TB treated in the NTEP in India
Study Overview:
The presence of all four first-line anti-TB drugs combined in one tablet can facilitate dosage calculation, prevent prescribing errors, increases patient’s acceptance and decreases pill burden. However, bioavailability of these drugs upon intake is not fully elucidated and therefore, here, we planned to address this knowledge gap in Indian context.
Study Approach:
The study involves laboratory analysis of plasma anti-TB drug measurements using HPLC.
Expected Public Health Impact:
The study would provide the bioavailability of all these anti-TB drugs, when used as FDC tablets.
